This is just another startup internet company. Your best bet is to call LOCAL professionals. PLEASE don't use services like national home improvement registry, service magic, leads.com, renovationexperts.com,zabidz.com. or any internet marketing service in the home improvemnt catagory.

One of these companies once promised to send out 4 PRO's to powerwash a deck. Within 24 hours they had sent 12 contractors this information resulting in the lady being robbed by the supposed PRO they sent out. The honest pro's that they sent were charged a total of $438 for the free estimate that they offer on the internet.

BEWARE ALL HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR REFERAL SERVICES ON THE INTERNET!!!

Oh yes, the good old days, I used to watch it after school too.

And every time someone asked me for the time I couldn’t help reply: “It’s tool time!” lol

Even now every now and then I do that too, but no one gets the reference anymore…

there are numerous companies that provide this service
i would imagine Lowe's uses whichever one offered them the most competitive price for the service. they all provide pretty much the same information, basic criminal background, credit and insurance(workers comp claims) check, they also list past known addresses and aliases.

Check some of the flooring manufacturers websites for their disclaimers.

Check local home depot/lowes stores to see what they charge per sq ft. I have seen 2.37 but know handymans charge 2.00/sq ft

get fliers and leave on car windsheilds at the hardware stores/malls/etc.

get business cards made

call local flooring wholesalers and leave your business cards/brochures and or partner with them.

Take a small ad out with the church news flyer

Talk with real estate/mortgage brokers and leave your info with them.

Talk with builders/construction companies and offer your services.

Go to library and check out some books on contracts etc.
Check out the construction guidebooks at Lowes/Hoem depot
good luck

Yes, you are. If you weren't happy with the price, why did you sign the contract?

If the work has been done and the workmanship is questionable, or if they used "bait & switch" tactics, or they added on change orders that you didn't sign an agreement for you may have a legitimate claim (based on your question, however, it appears that you have not started construction yet).

If you really want out of it, contact an attorney who specializes in construction law. He may be able to negotiate something for you (or get you out of it completely). Design/Build is very expensive, so whatever you spend on a lawyer might be money well spent.

If you have a bona fide complaint with the contractor contact the CSLB: http://www.cslb.ca.gov/consumers/infocomplaint.asp

Be sure to read this before you sign your next contract: http://www.cslb.ca.gov/consumers/beforehiring.asp

I personally like Lowe's better, they offer better customer service, are more friendly, and have better prices. I personally wouldn't walk into a Hope Depot, their stores are dirty, dark, and you can never find help that is knowledgeable.
